It’s ahead of Hogwarts Legacy (where the Switch version makes up 39% of sales) and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. Super Mario Bros. But then 2023 came along and things started to change. Out of the blue, Level-5 popped up at the February Nintendo Direct Showcase with announcements for Layton, DECAPOLICE, and a brand new Fantasy Life game. Soon after, a Vision Showcase revealed that all of these games (including Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road) would be receiving a global release between 2023 and 2024. But how would Layton work on the Switch? And is the Switch really the place for DS games of old? Fortunately, we’ve seen plenty of these make the jump to the console in Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, Etrian Odyssey…

Image: NintendoIt’s no secret that we at Nintendo Life love Super Mario Galaxy. Since its release in 2007, we have played through this planet-hopping adventure several times with both Wii remote and Joy-Con (thanks to its re-release in Super Mario 3D All-Stars), but every day is a school day and we have just learnt that there is a specific control quirk that changes how high the plumber bros. can spin jump. Yes, as showcased in a recent post by Twitter account @MarioBrothBlog, it turns out that both Mario and Luigi have preferences for which hand you should swing if you…

Subscribe to Nintendo Life on YouTubeWe live in a blinking lovely time right now. Gone is the notion that genres like real-time strategy (RTS) and management sims can’t be controlled with a standard controller, and we have the likes of Two Point Campus and RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition on Switch to prove it. Joining that field is SteamWorld Build, the latest game in the beloved SteamWorld series, and the first in 3D. On the surface, things seem very simple. You have a city in which you need to build (!) homes, refineries, and resource extractors. Each home can house…

To celebrate this historic Hyrulean occasion, we’re running articles throughout the week dedicated to the game, our memories, and its legacy. In this final feature, we’re closing with an opener as Jim explains why the game’s first dungeon is one of his all-time faves… I have mentioned it a few times during this week’s anniversary celebration, but I’ll say it again just in case you haven’t been keeping up with the Ocarinaversary content (tut tut tut): The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina…

What are the best roguelikes on Nintendo Switch? When it comes to modern video games, there are few more polarising genre terms. That divisive descriptor draws some players like moths to a flame, while others run a mile at the mere whisper of it.These days, it often feels like ‘roguelike’ — which refers to dungeon crawler Rogue from 1980 — is attached to every other game released. The label has become so pervasive that it now stands alongside ‘Metroidvania’ as an increasingly vague (though very handy) shorthand for games with specific mechanics; in this case, games with randomised elements that…

Be sure to cast your votes in the poll below; but first, let’s check out the box art designs themselves. North America Image: Nintendo The release in North America depicts what is arguably the closest representation of what the game actually looks like on-screen. You’ve got sprites of both Mario and Donkey Kong, along with the classic pink platforms and white ladders against a jet-black background. It’s iconic and it simply works. Wonderful stuff. Japan Image: Nintendo Japan’s release opted for a quirky illustration for its own cover, showcasing Mario chucking a barrel at the dastardly Donkey Kong, who just…

Subscribe to Nintendo Life on YouTubeWatch on YouTube Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 launched on the Switch earlier this month, and in its next patch, it will be making a lot of changes based on community feedback. In the latest post on the official game website, it’s mentioned how version 1.3 will be the team’s “largest early gameplay directional adjustment update”. The adjustments made are a response to the fact players have “quickly pushed” the mechanics in the game to their absolute limits. While this patch will have a “high number of very impactful character changes” future balance updates are going…
