The Book of Clarence will hit cinemas on January 12, 2024. New character posters have been released, which introduce the cast of the upcoming Biblical epic.
Serving as Samuel’s second feature since The Harder They Fall premiered in 2021, The Book of Clarence — which is set in 29 AD Jerusalem — follows a man who claims he is the new Messiah sent by God, which is seemingly his only option to give his family a better life and to free himself of debt.

What to expect in The Book of Clarence?
Samuel has yet again teamed up with LaKeith Stanfield (Someone Great) for the upcoming feature. Stanfiled has previously starred as Cherokee Bill in the director’s 2021 western film, The Harder They Fall.
Standfield stars as the titular character in The Book of Clarence, alongside Omar Sy, Anna Diop, RJ Cyler, Caleb McLaughlin, Alfre Woodard, David Oyelowo, Micheal Ward, Teyana Taylor, and James McAvoy. Other cast members include Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Babs Olusanmokun, Nicholas Pinnock, Chase Dillon, Tom Glynn-Carney, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, and Benedict Cumberbatch.
“The Book of Clarence is a bold new take on the timeless Hollywood era Biblical epic,” reads the synopsis. “Streetwise but struggling, Clarence is trying to find a better life for himself and his family, make himself worthy to the woman he loves, and prove that he’s not a nobody. Captivated by the power and glory of the rising Messiah and His apostles, he risks everything to carve his own path to a divine life, a journey through which he finds redemption and faith, power and knowledge.”
Besides sitting in the director’s chair, Samuel also produced the film along with Shawn “Jay-Z” Charter, James Lassiter, and Tendo Nagenda, with Garrett Grant executive producing.
