Welcome to the latest edition of Missed Fists where we shine a light on fights from across the globe that may have been overlooked in these hectic times where it seems like there’s an MMA show every other day. Last week, we spent plenty of time catching up with former UFC fighters and that’s how we’re starting off again, though we have a feeling that it’s not who was involved in this first clip that will have you glued to your screen as opposed to what happened. (Big thanks as always to @Barrelelapierna for their weekly lists of the best…

Aljamain Sterling is on to bigger and better things. Well, that’s the plan anyway, as the former UFC bantamweight champion has a move up all but confirmed. “The Funkmaster” teased his inevitable return to the 145-pound featherweight division ahead of his last time out opposite Sean O’Malley at UFC 292 in August. Unfortunately for Sterling, his roadmap of winning and vacating to allow his teammate and top contender Merab Dvalishvili a title opportunity hit a snag at the hands of “Sugar.” Suffering a second-round TKO defeat to lose his title, Sterling was left without an instant rematch as he desired,…

Miesha Tate never used the word regret, but she definitely learned a valuable (and painful) lesson in her first and only weight cut to 125 pounds. A lifelong bantamweight and former UFC and Strikeforce 135-pound champ, Tate, 37, tried the flyweight division after a disappointing loss to Ketlen Vieira in her second post-retirement fight. She suffered a lopsided loss to Lauren Murphy in July 2022 and didn’t book another fight until booking a matchup against Julia Avila at UFC Austin. Looking back, Tate admits the move to 125 pounds was probably a bad idea. “I don’t think most people realize…

Todd Duffee appeared at the BKFC 56 press conference and ripped Ben Rothwell for withdrawing from their fight. BKFC President David Feldman announced Rothwell’s scratch, the result of a bad bout with the flu, and Duffee responded by questioning whether his opponent was truly sick. “I think it’s sad that Ben’s stuck in 2020 and thought this was a stay-at-home job,” Duffee cracked. “It’s terrible.” Duffee, a well-traveled UFC vet, was scheduled to make his bare-knuckle debut on Saturday against Rothwell, who aimed for his third BKFC win and a title shot. “I’ve fought with COVID my last fight, so…

Ian Machado Garry continues to make enemies within the UFC roster. Sean Brady became the latest contender to invoke Machado Garry’s name on Wednesday at UFC Austin’s media day when he targeted the Irishman for his next fight. Brady is currently slated to welcome Kelvin Gastelum back to the welterweight division this Saturday in a main card bout, which takes place at the Moody Center in Austin, Tex., while Machado Garry is set to face former teammate Vicente Luque on Dec. 16 at UFC 296. “I was asking for the Ian Garry fight before I was given Kelvin, and then…

Ben Rothwell will not make his bare-knuckle boxing return on Saturday. Rothwell’s scheduled co-headlining bout against fellow UFC veteran Todd Duffee at BKFC 56 has been cancelled after Rothwell fell ill Thursday morning, BKFC president David Feldman announced at the event’s pre-fight press conference. “I do have an unfortunate announcement to make that our co-main event, Ben Rothwell actually came down really, really sick this morning,” Feldman said. “He’s not going to be able to compete. We tried to get a last-minute replacement for Todd Duffee and we just couldn’t line it up, so we’re going to push that fight…

Tom Aspinall doesn’t like the state of boxing. Earlier this month, Aspinall won the interim UFC heavyweight title when he knocked out Sergei Pavlovich in the first round at UFC 295. And as a new UFC heavyweight champion, Aspinall has taken it upon himself to join Dana White’s battle against the sport of boxing. Speaking to talkSPORT Drive on Wednesday about his recent win, Aspinall answered a question about what it’s like to stare down an opponent before a fight, and the interim heavyweight champion took a sideswipe at boxing. “If you’re fighting in the top 10, top five in…

The UFC’s middleweight division takes center stage as the promotion kicks off its February schedule. The UFC announced Thursday that a matchup between Roman Dolidze and Nassourdine Imavov will headline the UFC’s Fight Night, which takes place Feb. 3 at a location and venue to be announced. MMA Time was first to report the booking on Twitter. After Dolidze’s stellar 2022 campaign with three finish wins, he was only able to compete once in 2023, dropping a unanimous decision to Marvin Vettori at UFC 286 in March. Dolidze was scheduled to face Derek Brunson and Jared Cannonier in separate end-of-the-year…
