A man was shot multiple times and critically wounded on a New York City subway train as it arrived at a busy station in downtown Brooklyn on Thursday, panicking evening rush hour passengers. The shooting came a week after Gov. Kathy Hochul sent the National Guard into the subway system to help police search people for weapons after a series of high-profile crimes on city trains. Authorities said Thursday’s shooting involved two men who police have not identified and who got into a confrontation, and then a physical fight, aboard the moving train just before 4:45 p.m. One of the men, who police said…

Federal officials are investigating an incident in which an American Airlines plane flying from Dallas to Los Angeles suffered a tire problem, just a week after a United Airlines jetliner lost a tire during takeoff. The Federal Aviation Administration said Thursday that preliminary information indicated that American flight 345 “blew a tire” during takeoff from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport but said later “the crew reported a flat tire.” American said the pilots got a warning of low pressure in one of the tires. The Boeing 777 landed safely and taxied to the gate under its own power, American said. That model of…

SpaceX came close to completing an hourlong test flight of its mega rocket on its third try Thursday, but the spacecraft was lost as it descended back to Earth. The company said it lost contact with Starship as it neared its goal, a splashdown in the Indian Ocean. The first-stage booster also ended up in pieces, breaking apart much earlier in the flight over the Gulf of Mexico after launching from the southern tip of Texas near the Mexican border. “The ship has been lost. So no splashdown today,” said SpaceX’s Dan Huot. “But again, it’s incredible to see how…

“This is not a radical idea,” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) told Congress this morning. The chairman of the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions is calling for the legislative branch to pick up an issue dropped nearly 70 years ago:  changing the workweek to 32 hours without docking employee pay, or in other words, a four-day week. Sanders spoke of successes in his opening statement that other countries have had in implementing shortened work weeks, like, of course, France, but also in specific companies across the nation.  United Auto Workers head Shawn Fain, the union leader who won historic…

They’ve turned to weed instead of alcohol for “High January” and all months following, and have ditched sugary sodas, too, keen on pursuing healthier lifestyles. Now a heavy metal water brand is cashing in on their prohibition vibes and healthy sensibilities. Liquid Death, the water and iced tea company easily recognizable by its skeleton-stamped tallboy cans, has been around since 2017, but its recent funding round of $67 million has rocketed it to unicorn status with a $1.4 billion valuation. It swelled to make up 10% of the entire $13…

The CEO of TikTok is vowing to fight any potential ban of the social media app, urging users to “protect your constitutional rights” and promising to launch a legal battle if the bill that passed the House of Representatives Wednesday becomes law. In a video posted to Twitter/X, Shou Chew urged users to share their stories not only with friends and family, but with senators as well.
