Katie Taylor got her revenge.
Already an Olympic gold medalist boxer and undisputed women’s lightweight champion, Taylor defied the odds and evened her series with Chantelle Cameron on Saturday in front of a raucous crowd in Dublin’s 3Arena, winning an instant Fight of the Year candidate to avenge her only professional loss and seize the mantle of undisputed two-division champion. After 10 back-and-forth rounds, Taylor captured two judges’ scorecards 98-92 and 96-94, while the lone dissenter scored it 95-95. Afterward, Taylor and promoter Eddie Hearn called to complete the trilogy against Cameron at Ireland’s famed Croke Park.
Taylor’s victory and the breathtaking nature of the bout ignited a flood of admiration on social media, with MMA luminaries such as Conor McGregor and Cris Cyborg joining among the chorus to heap praise upon Taylor and Cameron for their performances.
